Past winners include Terrence McNally’s “This Side of the Door” (aka “Things That Go Bump in the Night”), Lonne Elder III’s “Ceremonies in Dark Old Men,” and Jonathan Larson’s “Rent” — in fact, the Wagner College award was the first public recognition of Larson’s masterpiece of musical theater, given when he was still working part-time in a Manhattan diner and living in a third-story, cold-water walkup. Among those judging for the Stanley Award have been playwrights Edward Albee and Paul Zindel, actresses Geraldine Page and Kim Stanley, and TV producer/pioneer talk-show host David Susskind.

Oct 2, 2009 On October 4th, I have the extreme pleasure of reading the role of "Layla" in a staged reading of Stephen Girascuolo's new play, Orange ALERT at The Workshop Theatre Company. This play examines the effects of 911 on the lives of several interconnected New Yorkers and is a truly beautiful piece. Working on this has been a complete joy.

May 3, 2009 I've been asked to direct Gerald Tallon's new play Bird, about Charlie "Bird" Parker. This is part of New Federal Theatre's Playwrighting Workshop. Not only is it a joy to work at Woodie King, Jr.'s New Federal Theatre, but I've cast a talented member of the HB Studio family (Russell Hayes) and an old acting classmate of mine (Jeramy Peay, MFA New School. Cast him!) who's work is beautiful and inventive. I'm honored all around.

March 19, 2009 I have just been cast in Curious Frog Theatre Company's Spring Preview Salon. I"ll be portraying "Juliet" in two scenes from Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. Here are more details from the Curious Frog website... The Who - What - Where - When - Why… Proceeds will support Curious Frog's spring production of True West, which will run at a found space in Manhattan. Everybody loves a party. We hear you. The Spring Preview wouldn’t be much of a shindig without a little food and drink. Not to worry. Curious Frog knows how to make merry. Just ask anybody who came to our benefit for Much Ado About Nothing last fall, where between songs, musician Mark Pires did impressions of Christopher Walken playing Hamlet. Yep. The wine was that good. Need we say more?
March 8, 2009 This Sunday @ Six in the Jewel Box theater John McKinney is having a reading of his collection of “micro-plays” which he's gathered together under the working title, Attention Deficit Drama — 14 Short Plays with No Common Themes, Subjects or Genres. The reading is estimated to go about an hour and a half. Afterwards, there will be a feedback session moderated by Scott Sickles. I will be performing in the play Unintelligent Life. Hope to see you there!
March 6, 2009 On Friday, March 6th@ 7pm I'll be participating in a benefit performance of STRANGULATED, a new play by Elizabeth Grey, directed by Kate Bushmann. Details below. Abingdon Theatre Company Friday, March 6 $10 suggested donation |
First-come, first-served STRANGULATED is a wonderful new play which I’ve been blessed to be a part of developing over the past year. It’s a “dramedy” about a Southern woman whose loyalties and love are tested by her Westchester in-laws. Abingdon’s mission “to develop and produce new plays by American playwrights” has driven the development of more than 200 original plays since 1993. Upon hearing that Abingdon is in immediate need of funds, the playwrights who have received so much support from Abingdon are stepping up to self-produce a marathon of seated play readings for their benefit. A full list of plays will later be posted on Abingdon’s website: http://www.abingdontheatre.org/ If you cannot attend our March 6th showing, will you consider making a donation (of ANY amount) to Abingdon anyway? If you can attend, will you consider giving more than $10? Abingdon needs our help today. Luckily, you can make a tax-deductible donation by credit card right now at https://npo.networkforgood.org/Donate/Donate.aspx?npoSubscriptionId=7627.
January 15, 2009 "Founded in 1994, WorkShop Theater Company's mission is to provide a creative home for our diverse group of playwrights, directors and actors, to hone their talents and cultivate projects, from inspiration through finished production, while encouraging our audience to partner with us in developing new works." (Taken from the Workshop's website.) I first became acquainted with this company through seeing Rudy Gray's powerful play "Conversation with a Kleagle" directed by Stacy Waring in 2003. I've wanted to be a part of this company since then and this is a real treat for me. Stay tuned!
